Anna L. Brown
Book Scholarship
The annual Anna L. Brown Book Scholarship is awarded to a deserving male and female who participates on the Franklinton High School Track team. Anna Brown or MA-MA as she was affectionately known was the grandmother of 3 Franklinton Alumni and track athletes, Shelby, Olivia and Michael Miles Brown. Mrs. Brown lived a life of service to her family, her neighborhood/community and her church (Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion church, Hartford CT) where she served as president of the Deaconess board, Member of the Ladies Usher Board and worked closely and supported many of the activities sponsored by the Christian Youth Fellowship. Mrs. Brown was a loving wife for 70 years, a mother of 5 children, grandmother of 5 and great grandmother of 2. She also nurtured the lives of many other children by helping to raise and take care of many neighborhood kids providing day care for them when their parents needed it. Mrs. Brown also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She worked tirelessly at her children’s schools supporting the efforts as a class mother. Finally, Mrs. Brown worked closely with the Connecticut Greater Hartford Scholarship foundation that raised funds to provide scholarships to students pursuing higher education. Her family is starting this annual scholarship in her memory because of the loving and supportive nature that the Franklinton High School Track team coaches, staff and team provided to her grandchildren and want to pay it forward.
We congratulate the recipients of this award and wish them the very best in their pursuit of their education.
